St Julian's , or San Giljan in Maltese, is situated along the coast, bordering with Sliema, north of the country's capital, Valletta. St. Julians is Malta's entertainment centre. It is known for tourism-oriented businesses, home to Malta's top hotels, restaurants, bars and nightclubs, clustered mostly in an the area known as Paceville.

Initially a tiny fishing village, before 1800 there was practically nothing much in the area, except for Spinola Palace, the old church, and a few fishermen's boat houses and farmers' dwellings dotting the countryside. The elegant Spinola Palace, built in 1658 by an Italian knight, Giovanni Spinola, was the landmark building of the bay.

The town is named after the patron saint of the town, Saint Julian, widely known as Julian the Hospitaller and also as Julian the Poor. The Village feast of St. Julians is a very popular one and it is celebrated on the last Sunday of August.

Along the years St. Julians later became the summer destination for wealthy locals and later developed into the Island's mostly sought resorts. St Julian's bay is one of the most picturesque sites of the Maltese Islands, particularly attractive at night and the perfect venue for open-air dining. Still used by fishermen, St. Julians Bay is lined with quaint cafés and exquisite restaurants. Some of the old boat houses still stand to this very day and the small bay is a shelter to numerous coloured Maltese boats that are berthed peacefully all year long.

The young at heart will enjoy nearby Paceville; the nightlife mecca. Paceville is vibrant all year round and it suits all tastes; from quiet piano bars to the latest in club music, the elegant Dragonara casino, various fast food outlets, superb restaurants, cinemas, bowling alleys, the "Bay Street" shopping complex and the St,George's bay blue flag beach.

Inland from the coastal resorts are some of Malta's most urban sought-after residential areas. The relatively new villages of Swieqi and Ibragg are two of the popular residential areas in Malta due to their close proximity to St. Julians bay. There's always a good selection of Apartments, Maisonettes and Terraced Houses to suit all pockets. The more elite areas of The Gardens in St. Julians and Victoria Gardens in Ibragg are both communities of Detached and Semi-Detached Villas most with private pools, drive-in and garden.

Portomaso, right on St. Julians Bay, is an award winning waterfront residential development.
