Bahar ic-Caghaq is a small Maltese village situated a 10 minutes drive from St. Julians on the same coastal area in the limits of Madliena. The village sits at the mouth of Malta's longest valley, 'Wied il-Kbir' - the large valley. With a population of merely 1250 people, Bahar is- Caghaq is one of Malta's smallest communities.

The name, Bahar ic-Caghaq, means Sea of Pebbles. The long stretch of low rocky coast is characterised by the large number of pebbles. The British forces used the area as a camping venue during the British colonial period of the Maltese islands. In continuance of the tradition, the Maltese Boy Scouts still use the area as a camping site.

Bahar ic-Caghaq's popularity increased exponentially in the last 15 years. Its low density, tranquil environment and close proximity to Sliema and St. Julians saw land development increasing by threefold as Maltese people continued to purchase and develop property in the area. Nevertheless the Village cannot grow much larger with no further development allowed beyond the very limited four-floor development area.

The village, laden with beautiful Terraced Houses, Maisonettes and small Apartment blocks, have made it popular with the upper-middle population. Properties in the area enjoy high appreciation and excellent rental returns due to the very low supply. A small Villa community in the outskirts of the village is host to some of the Islands most exclusive homes. Bahar ic-Caghaq also contains a very small number of bars and restaurants.

The Maltese government recently announced that an area just outside the village, known as White Rocks, will be converted into a sports complex. The landfill, situated in the nearby region of Maghtab, has now been rehabilitated and it will eventually be converted into a family park.
